What is Neurofeedback?

Your brain is the centre of your central nervous system (CNS). It receives, processes, and stores information, and formulates appropriate situational responses. Therefore, it is important to take care of your mind and body.

Do you ever feel stuck on repeat? Where you feel like you cannot get out of a certain way of thinking and behaving? The negative thought patterns may be from trauma, and it feels hard to regulate your nervous system. This discomfort can make it difficult to maintain healthy relationships, show up effectively at work and make it difficult to do deal with stress.

Neuroptimal is a unique Dynamical Neurofeedback™ system that’s completely non-invasive and non-directive, so it’s unmatched in both power and safety. Unlike other systems, it doesn’t “push” the brain in any direction or force the trainer to choose one or two frequencies and hope they “get it right,” which can lead to negative side effects or contradicting messages. Instead, it simply gives the brain information about itself and what it’s doing, and lets the brain decide for itself whether an increase or reduction is warranted.

You train your body, now it’s time to train your brain

Neurofeedback trains the brain to be more flexible, allowing you to respond more appropriately to situations and return to your baseline quickly.

It builds your resilience, helps you better manage stress, and leads to lasting change.

Add Neurofeedback to Your Treatment Plan

Neurofeedback training is recommended for anyone looking to overcome mental obstacles and achieve growth. It helps everyone from toddlers to seniors, business professionals to athletes, and parents to performers to:

  • Improve energy levels

  • Enhance focus and alertness

  • Change behaviours

  • Break bad habits

  • Better manage stress

  • Become more resilient

  • Improve memory

  • Overcome anxiety and depression

About your trainer

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC, Canada and that means that you may be covered for Neurofeedback in BC through your medical benefits.

I started using Neuroptimal in 2013 when I lost my dad. I was suffering from major anxiety and was constantly having to keep busy and then my body would crash and shut down. I didn’t know what to do with myself and I was having an extremely difficult time with my sadness with my grief. I feel with grief therapy and Neurofeedback it truly helped regulate my nervous system.

In experiencing first-hand the difference that Neurofeedback made in my life, I could tell a difference after the first session - I was hooked! Not only did it help me with my anxiety and depression it helped improve my focus and mental clarity.

I am passionate about helping others and I chose to add this to my counselling practice to help my clients. I have been using Neurofeedback on clients presenting problems with trauma, post-concussion, anxiety, depression, and grief

I am honoured to be able to offer Dynamical Neurofeedback™ to the Sea to Sky Corridor area as a Certified NeurOptimal® Trainer and RCC. I believe strongly in the body’s inherent wisdom to help heal itself and feel that this truly safe and non-invasive form of brain training can be a powerful tool to help us live our best lives. With the stressors we are exposed to daily, especially these days, we can use all the help we can get.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You’ll sit comfortably in a chair with tiny sensors on the sides of your head and your ears, which pick up the delicate electrical activity of your brain. I’ll take a baseline reading, and then your session begins. You’ll watch visuals of your reading on a screen (if you like), and as you do, there will be very brief pauses in the sound and image. Your brain uses these pauses to distinguish between efficient and less effective brain activity. The Neuroptimal® session itself takes 33 minutes, after which you’ll fill out a questionnaire about your experience and your recording will be saved. Total appointment time is 45-50 minutes, and you can expect to feel very relaxed both during and afterwards.

  • Many people start to notice changes — like feeling better rested, having a better outlook, and engaging more effectively in relationships — after just ten sessions, and most achieve their goals completely by 20 to 40 sessions. You can stop your sessions whenever you like, but the more training you do, the more flexible and resilient your brain will become.

  • Neurofeedback training is a learned task, just like learning to read. And, just like learning to read, it can’t be unlearned. You may get rusty, but the effects will stay with you in some capacity throughout your lifetime. If you feel your training slipping away from you, know that it’s easy to get back on track with just a few booster sessions. A previously trained brain responds and recovers quickly!
